We always hear about how workers need to continuously learn, and we often forget that business owners need to do so as well.
However, many small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) bosses just don’t have the time to go for training.
Many might be too busy focusing on the day-to-day operations, especially when working with lean manpower and taking on multiple roles themselves. Perhaps because of this, their personal training often becomes a low or even a non-priority.
To address the SME bosses’ need for learning, NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) has partnered Human Capital Singapore (HCS) to launch a U Leap Community for SME Bosses on 13 March 2019.
If you remember, e2i launched the U Leap app two years ago to allow workers to take up bite-sized courses on the go, anytime, anywhere. Well, they have extended this to serve the needs of the bosses now.
Through the U Leap app, the U Leap Community for SME Bosses brings business owners together and allows them to access customised learning content and network with their industry peers.
They will get bite-sized knowledge and skills on topics geared towards leadership thinking, organisational development, internationalisation and read real-life case studies on successful human resource practices.
Boosting Bosses’ Skills
There are currently 14 e-learning modules on the app that were curated by e2i and HCS. The last we heard, there are plans to roll out a total of 50 modules.
These modules aim to boost SME bosses’ leadership and human capital skills, helping them stay on top of trending developments and bring their workers and companies to the next level.
Upon completion of the modules, SME bosses will obtain an e-certification of completion (e-COC) that can be used with industry-recognised classroom-based workshops for higher education.
“It is critical to equip SME business leaders with relevant skills and knowledge to help them transform their business and stay ahead of the game. The U Leap Community for SME Bosses will help time-strapped leaders to gain easy access to bite-sized modules, engage discussion with peers, and learn at their own pace. By unlocking certifiable routes on U Leap, SME bosses can look forward to more mobile learning that allows them to earn credits for professional certifications,” said e2i CEO Gilbert Tan.
HCS CEO Ho Geok Choo said the launch of the community is a step in the right direction to prepare a future-ready workforce.
“For Singapore, grooming digital-savvy workers is a priority, as it pushes towards a Smart Nation. HCS is determined to be the leading high-tech and high-touch digital HR Hub amidst the fast changes of today’s world. We greatly value the support of e2i as we embark on this journey,” she said.
With that said, the launch of the community might be a small step, but it is certainly an important step in helping to prepare workers and companies, especially SMEs to survive, sustain and thrive in this future economy.
