Frustrated that you are not getting the results you want when searching for a job?
Then you’ll be pleased to know that the job search function on Jobs Bank has been given a major facelift to cut down job mismatches and missed matches amongst jobseekers and bring about better search results for you.
Click on the job search function on the portal today, and you will be directed to a new page called MyCareersFuture.sg (MCF). The Jobs Bank will continue to serve employers as a jobs repository.
It has been piloted since 2 January this year and was officially launched on 17 April 2018 by Second Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo.
As at 8 April 2018, it has some 280,000 visitors.
Why A New Portal?
If you recall, the Jobs Bank started in July 2014. It was an initiative pushed for by the NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay, who also heads NTUC’s Future Jobs, Skills and Training capability.
But let’s face it. Technological disruption has quickened the pace of restructuring and this is having an impact on jobs and jobseekers.
And the result? Job mismatches and missed matches.
The new MCF portal is designed to have the flexibility to implement and adopt new technologies in a timely manner.
“Today, what happens is that some jobseekers send out many resumes not knowing whether there is a good job fit and whether they have the skills that employers are looking for. At the same time, the employers have a similar problem, sometimes it’s a hit and miss, and they may not find who they are looking for.
“What the MyCareersFuture.sg portal seeks to do is to make the job search more easy for the jobseekers by allowing them to specify things like salary expected and the level of job they are looking for,” explained Minister Teo.
There are already about 19,000 job listings on MCF, and more than one quarter of the listings are from the ICT sector.
What’s In It For You?
So, how will the new MCF portal make your job seeking life better? Here are some quick facts.
- It leverages skills-to-job matching technology which aims to make the job search smarter and faster. So, the higher the scores, the better the match.
- You will also be recommended adjacent jobs. Which means you may not have applied for a particular job but this portal will now tell you that a particular job actually matches the skills you have acquired. That gives you a second choice to consider too, doesn’t it!
- And remember we’ve been keeping you informed of the slew of schemes to tap on to improve their employability? You can now find jobs that qualify for programmes under Adapt and Grow. Like jobs where employers are open to hiring mature workers under the Career Support Programme or even Career Trial. Wonderful isn’t it?
A Success Story
Kamaliyah Abdul Marzeethu, 39, left her job in operations in 2015 to explore career possibilities in early childhood.
After trying out some part-time options, she found that she was not suitable for jobs in the sector.
She then turned to marketing communications but faced roadblocks in her job search.
Kamaliyah was introduced to the MCF portal to start searching for relevant jobs.
“I found the portal useful as it allowed me to view the expected salary range as well as look for jobs that are relevant to my skills in marketing communications,” she said.
She has landed a job as a marketing communications officer and will start work soon.
